glock dummy rounds

Glock Dummy Rounds - Dry fire practice continues to grow among shooters of all levels as a means of increasing skill without the high cost of live ammunition. Our own Matthew Maruster recently published an excellent article on the use of dummy bullets and various Snapcaps and in light of his excellent ideas, I would like to look at the 3 biggest players in dummy bullets.

First, some quick words to clarify the difference between Snap Caps and Dummy Ammo. Snap Caps is the name of a specific product made by A-Zoom. As a long-time dominant player in the Dummy bullet category, for many, Snap Caps have become a buzzword when referring to non-bullet bullets like Kleenex is to facial tissues and Band-Aids are bandages. Since this article is comparing Snap Caps (products) to competing products, I will refer to all of these products as dummy bullets and when I say Snap Caps I mean products made by A-Zoom.

Also, please note that in the last few years I have seen several Chinese manufacturers start producing and selling dummy rounds similar to A-Zoom Snap Caps. Therefore, many third party companies are currently stocking and selling products that are similar in construction to the Snap Cap brand but may cost more.

Finally, it is worth noting that Ready Up Gear is the new manufacturer and seller of the dummy rounds previously marketed by Newbold. If you remember the Newbold dummy rounds you should note that the same product made by the same people in the same style is now sold by the Ready Up Gear brand.

I have chosen what I believe to be the 3 highest quality and most popular options on the market. Frankly, there is not much competition, but from what is available, these 3 companies are the best 3 in my opinion. All three companies are located in the United States and all of their dummy bullets are manufactured in the United States.

The A-Zoom Snap Caps brand is now owned by Lyman, a larger company. Ready Up Gear is an up and coming company that sells firearms related products, and ST Action Pro is primarily focused on ammunition products.

*Disclaimer: We sell A-Zoom and Ready Up Gear products on our own website. The links in this article will take you to those product pages. We do not resell ST Action Pro rounds. Despite this financial incentive, I have prepared the ideas below and reviewed them as unbiased as possible.

The industry has an ongoing debate about the possibility of damaging your gun through dry firing. The main problem is that the pivot can be damaged over time by not hitting anything. Hitting nothing but air it can be argued that the pin will deteriorate over time.

It is good to keep your Glock pistol dry, but in situations where the pistol is fired continuously, it is recommended to use a snap cap or dummy round.

I definitely believe that dry fire can cause damage over time with thousands and thousands of presses in empty rooms. I know many serious shooters who have broken the pivot that do so, although most gun owners don't do enough shooting for it to be a concern.

Dummy rounds come into this discussion because in theory using a dummy round provides something for the pivot to hit and thus prevent damage. This is, however, probably the biggest single point of difference between these three products.

Simple And Effective: Why You Need To Use Dummy Rounds » Concealed Carry Inc

This for me is where the ST Action Pro dummy rounds fall short. Of these three, the ST Action Pro is the only product without a primer cup. This means that if you are concerned about damaging the gun during dry firing, you need to consider A-Zoom or Ready Up Gear rounds.

In fact, the head instructor at the local police academy told me that they had to switch from the ST Action dummy round to the Ready Up Gear dummy round because the firing pin on the Gen 5 Glocks it was attached to the empty primer cup of the ST Action Pro. round and makes it difficult to extract the round from the chamber.

A-Zoom Snap Caps are primarily one piece of metal, but the primer cup is actually a piece of hard plastic. In finished gear rounds, the shell consists of a single solid piece of polymer that sits in the shell and sits flush against the bottom of the round.

So in the gun damage prevention category, I'd say the ST Action Pro loses, and the Snap Caps and gear-ready rounds are a close second.

I ran the three dummy rounds through my magazine and gun hundreds of times in preparation for this article and countless times in the past. Ready gear rounds are newer to the market so I have very little experience with them but have been using them exclusively for the past 12 months without fail.

I think you can't go wrong using these products as you relate to them doing what they are advertised to do.

A-Zoom Snap Caps are solid pieces of aluminum metal with primer cup slots. Despite my best efforts, I could not get a slot cup primer. Now while it's nice that the whole thing is one metal, the main problem that many have reported is that the aluminum is too weak. With about 10 rounds of Snap Cap I could see aluminum flakes coming out of where the extractor threw the rounds.

My friend Riley, and many others on the internet have reported that with the constant use of Snap Caps, whole flakes or rings of aluminum can still come off and be left in the barrel or gun.

On the other hand, the ST Action Pro and finished round gears are not just metal but are actually made of steel/brass. I call it an advantage because it will stand up to any use since those covers are designed for live fire.

Using some tool I was able to force the polymer out of the tubes of the two rounds Ready Up Gear and ST Action Pro but it was a way to prove to myself that it was possible when honestly I don't see normal and normal use. may cause some problems.

In this category, despite the first impressions, I say the Ready Up Gear and ST Action Pro wins.

One thing for ST Action Pro and Ready Up Gear is that you can buy dummy rounds in one quantity. Need only 1? That is a choice. A-Zoom rounds are sold in packs as small as 5 only.

Glock Dummy Rounds 9mm 50 Pack

Besides being available in any quantity, the ST Action Pro is generally the least expensive of these three brands.

A-Zoom Snap Caps are the most expensive...about three times as much but they define themselves as solid pieces of metal that they claim last forever. If you don't mind the price and think they will last a long time, you can buy Snap Caps. But experience has shown that they deteriorate and must be replaced.

If you are interested in having something in the primer cup to avoid possible damage to your gun, but in the end you think that the polymer option is the best, you should buy ready gear rounds.

S.t. Action Pro .308 Cal Dummy Rounds

The ST Action Pro round is available in orange in all calibers and as a yellow option in a few calibers (although I used yellow primarily for the photos in this article). Ready Up Gear is currently expanding its product offering in other calibers and intends to use different colors for different calibers. This allows you to more easily distinguish between dummy rounds of different calibers. The A-Zoom round usually comes in the maroon color you see in the picture on this page but is also common in blue tones.

Since I use Dummy Rounds for various damage exercises on the scope I am looking in the dirt for my spent dummy ammo. They are too expensive to leave in the dirt and I get frustrated when I can't find them. In my opinion, all the dummy rounds reviewed in this article are equally easy to find in the dirt, although if one is a little harder to remove from the dirt it would be the A-Zoom Snap Caps.

A-Zoom Snap Caps: A tough primer cup to ensure there is no damage to the gun and will not crack or break because it is one piece of metal. But being made of aluminum means that shaving or large pieces of aluminum on the back of the gun is easy. In addition, it is the most expensive product by far.

Ready Gear Round: Not the cheapest, but no more expensive than the cheapest
